Qatar To Donate $20m To Alleviate Humanitarian Crisis In Yemen

Qatar will be pledging $20m through Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) as financial support to ease the suffering Yemeni people.

The decision was taken during a meeting held in Geneva, organised by the UN in cooperation with the Governments of Switzerland and Sweden, and in which Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and a number of politicians and high-level officials, participated to mobilise resources and to announce the volume of donations to help and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

During the occasion, the Director General of (QFFD), Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, praised the efforts exerted by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He explained that Qatar’s support is within the framework of supporting the inter-agency 2018 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan. He also urged other friendly nations to come forward and reduce the sufferings of Yemeni people.

The United Nations and its humanitarian agencies working on the ground in Yemen have appealed to donors to provide $2.96bn in funding to support the basic sectors of food security, health, water, sanitation and protection, as the bloody conflict in Yemen left 22 million people in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and protection.
