Cow is considered a sacred animal in India and people don’t often take it easy when somebody messes with it. In a recent incident, a Muslim man, who allegedly killed one of these animals paid the ultimate price.
According to reports, the victim was beaten to death by a mob after his ‘blasphemous’ act. Siraj Khan, 45 years old, died on the spot after he was assaulted in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh state. Meanwhile, Shakeel Maqbool, Khan’s friend, was also rushed to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The mob attacked the two men with sticks for allegedly killing a cow. The reports said that 400 additional police were deployed to the district after the authorities received information.
The police have made several arrests after the assault and it has been confirmed that meat and a bovine carcass were found in the scene. Investigations are currently in the progress.
Police official Arvind Tiwari said: “We have arrested four people, and they have been sent to judicial custody. We are investigating what prompted the attack.”
Individuals who kill cow in Madhya Pradesh may be imprisoned for a maximum of 7 years. Apart from slaughtering cows, possessing or eating beef is also prohibited.
